just a question- is that MDF you used for the frame?
I have very bad experiences with that I would like to share.
I had a friend and his girlfriend with a mounted subwoofer in the rear. The sub was mounted very solid with washers and bolts just like you did with the hi-lift.
he was rear ended by an idiot and the sub was ripped out of the MDF.
Smashed through the headrest into the neck of his girlfriend. She was dead instantly.
After a couple of weeks he committed suicide, he wasn't able to handle the guilt of being responsible for her death.
A hi-lift is already very heavy- just have in mind that the weight can increase 10 to 100 times in the case of an accident.

I've been wanting to build that for a long time! I think I would be great for camping (at least an extra spot if more people show up and you run out of tents/campers lol).
Weasel, I actually do crash investigation for a living. Yes it is mounted in MDF and I am not overly thrilled about how it it is mounted in the MDF. Certainly if I was rear ended it more than likely may come out tearing threw the MDF. However it is pressed against the rear headrest so it is pretty unlikely the jack would gain any momentum in a rear end crash and go anywhere unless I rolled as well. I will more than likely just mount it back there for trips and not drive with it daily. Also I made it out of MDF because well it was cheap I am sure I will only get a year or two out of it before it needs replacing anyway. I have been looking into the JeepSwag high lift mount, I feel it is one of the safer mounts... The hood mount terrifies me! The front bumper mount is a law suit waiting to happen! And rear bumper carriers are super expensive! Hi-Lift jacks are simply just dangerous to have in the car, and of course can be just as scary to use.
I am sorry to hear about your friend, truly is a sad story and is a good reminder to take a second look at how we are putting things in our rigs considering we are usually trying to put 10lbs of poo in a 5 lb bucket.
