Older thread, but a great topic. Considering this direction myself. Recently bought a FWC and looking for additional storage for things I don't want to have to keep inside the camper.

If you are considering a flatbed, Id suggest making full use of under-bed storage options, and push the direction of a legitimate flatbed model camper.

The additional floor space, and option for a side entrance make for some huge benefits.
Keeping your gear storage below the bed, as opposed to on top, helps keep the COG down as well.
