Any suggestions on a MTV helmet?

I'm a former avid cyclist & am looking for a new helmet. I quit riding nearly 12 years ago and want to get back in the saddle.

I'll be mountain biking and also occasional street riding. When I rode, giro and specialized were the top helmets. How about now?

TIA!

Honestly, it's pretty hard to go wrong with Bell/Giro helmets.

Easy to find, all sorts of prices, and they both fit pretty different so you should be able to find something that fits you well.

Pick a price, then go try some stuff on. The amount of helmet tech you can get for well under $100 is pretty amazing.

I've used Bell for the last two decades. One hard crash that resulted in the helmet cracking in two and saving my noggin. Any good helmet from one of the major brands should be just fine. Expect to spend at least $50.

And I'm sure you meant "MTB", not

LOL, Yeah, I meant MTB, not MTV... darned virtual keyboards.

Yeah, that seems to be what I'm hearing. Interesting 'cause I would have assumed a new vendor could have captured the market in the decade+ since I'd been in the market for a helmet.

Thanks again!

I really like my specialized helmets...
I think trial and error works the best...for helmets and saddles

As apalmer said, Bell and Giro make great lids. Both are owned by Bell Sports, so they are effectively the same in terms of feature, quality and value. However, they fit differently. The Giro Hex is an amazing helmet for the money.

I'm also a fan of Specialized helmets, but only at the upper end (125+). You might also look at Kali. That company was started by the guy that ran the Specialized helmet division for almost a couple decades.

That is a cool helmet, but it wouldn't work for me. I couldn't roll my head back much without the back of that helmet getting weird. Not a biggie if you sit very upright I guess.

Good point. I guess you'd have to check it for fit before you buy it. I agree though. I had an old Giro that fit poorly like that.

Right now the helmet I covet is the POC Tribec. They're built a little differently than most bike helmets (supposed to be safer) and they usually come in colors you wont find from other manufactures. Don't get Lead Blue, I called it first.
