Anybody have a 200 series Land Cruiser?

If you're shopping for a 2012 Land Cruiser, also check out the Infiniti QX56, which is based on the famous Nissan Patrol. 2011 was the first year in a long time that the Patrol has been sold in USA.

The QX56 with 4x4 is about $6000 less expensive than a comparably equipped Land Cruiser.

I find the QX56 really ugly. I saw one in person at the gas station about a week ago. Ewww.

Thats exaclty why Im not shopping the QX...Id have to look at it everyday. Its a shame really because its otherwise excellent and the interior is world class.

It definitely is a special kind of ugly, isn't it? What's with the chrome vents over the front guards? Yikes. I'm suddenly glad we don't get any Infinity-branded vehicles in Aus (yet, they're coming though).

Thanks!
Matto :)

Im getting old! :(
I have one that I bought new in 09 and it's been great. For perspective I have had Jeep Wranglers, Land Rover Disco's, Xterra, and a Hummer H3 Alpha. I would have to say it's been my favorite vehicle hands down.

Man Sbly, Your LC looks awesome.

Any more pictures or specs you would like to share???

Thanks ScottyDog and Blackwater. The threads on ExPo were a big help in the build process.

I have a "IPOR built 200" thread on here and at IH8MUD. The one on Mud has all the latest and greatest, I haven't updated the ExPo one since 2009. But if you have any questions just ask.

As for looks I think I will stick with the 200.

r3run33,

Since the last time I updated my thread here at ExPo, the 200 has been back to Colorado (Ouray), completed the Labrador Highway, been to the 2011 Overland Expo, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, White Sands, Blackhills, Devils Tower and Mt Rainer to name a few. Overall the truck has been great.

Oh and we are doing the Dalton Highway this summer.

The 2012 Nissan Patrol will look like the USA version. Nissan may continue to sell the older Patrol for a year or two. Toyota is continuing to sell the 100 series Land Cruiser in Australia, even though the new 200 series is available now.

Hi Haven,

I would have assumed that we would have received the originally-styled version that was launched in Abu Dhabi, as it's the one with the Nissan face:

It's still a large whale of a car, but to me is more attractive than the Infiniti version. It hadn't even crossed my mind that we would be inline for the Infinity one. Be that as it may, I've also heard that Nissan will continue to sell the GU patrols along-side the new model, which is encouraging. Even better if the GU will receive the excellent Renault turbo v6 diesel that's currently in the smaller Pathfinder and Navara, as has been rumoured for a while now. That would be a solid gold combination for a lot of people.

As for the 100-series cruisers, I'm afraid they disappeared when the 200 was launched here. The "entry-level" Landcruiser is the 70-series range, in either ute, troopie or wagon. Keep in mind that we've only just received the FJ cruiser now too (as in, over the last 6 months). Of course, we have the 150-series Prado sitting as the little-brother to the "proper" cruisers, which I don't think you get over there either. The FJ is built on the Prado chassis, so think along those lines (but with the option of the D4D diesel).

sbly - that's a very impressive 200 series there - again, colour me green!

Thanks!
Matto :)

I've had mine for several years now and it's great (except you have to listen to everybody bash them on the forums). I live just south of the Arctic Circle and my 200 series is great in the snow and ice, and in the extreme cold (-40 range). I have to work hard to get it to spin out or lose traction in the winter. It's been 100% reliable over the years and I'd buy another.

Things I love about it:
Split rear lift/tailgate
Comfortable ride, great stereo, excellent seats
Great AWD system (a little too complex once you get into 4low range)
The powertrain - fantastic acceleration and lots of power
Keyless entry system
As big as it is, it's incredibly agile and maneuverable

Things I dislike:
General lack of storage space (you give up the console to the beverage cooler, which I've used once or twice)
The sat nav system doesn't work in Alaska or northern Canada
The push button start system - I prefer a standard key, especially when using the remote start system
It's a bit wide
They're very uncommon, so getting parts is expensive and time-consuming, there a almost NO aftermarket items made for them, and some dealers don't know that the vehicle is (my local Toyota service department asked me "is that a Subaru?" when I made my first appointment)
Styling - let's be honest, the styling is not as good as a 80 or 100 series.
Jump seats - while they're a LC tradition, they take up a lot of space in the back

brussum,

A Subaru, I thought I had it bad when everyone kept asking me "did you lift your Highlander".
