Anybody here ever gone from an LR 3/4 to a 200 series Land Cruiser?

That's likely because the higher grades aren't polluted with garbage (i.e. ethanol).

Are you saying mid and premium grades DON'T have ethanol in them? I thought when the stickers on the gas pumps said "10% ethanol," it meant for all octanes.

Everyone, get the Pure Gas APP.... shows stations and we as the users update stations changing which grades are pure or closed, or only taking payment during business hours, etc. It's great for traveling.

It would surprise me if an engine designed to run on 87 would benefit much from higher octane but then again, a race engine like in my old Ducati certainly showed the difference with high octane race gas but the computer has to be optimized too get the most out of it.

Yes, I believe timing is indeed adjusted and knock sensor is watched to improve mileage & power output.

Doesn't Toyota give two different bhp ratings for many of their engines (1GR-FE, for example) based on octane?

I only know of that particular engine (and more specifically, with the FJ Cruiser) that they gave two different HP figures based on gas being used. I don't recall the 4Runner/Tacoma's having that rating, which is strange.
