anybody make a roof mounted light bar setup?

Without having a van to eyeball, I can't answer those questions. I wouldn't think that if the light is mounted to / along the rear edge of the hood , there would be any contact with the windshield. But if it's like a Jeep and you lay the hood back against the glass, well that ain't gonna work.....

About 10 years ago, I designed and made a roof mounted light system for my Nephews Funco Glamis sand toy, fully enclosed by a clear ABS sand cover I vaccuformed off a buck I made to fit the lights when they rotated through their extents, It had a total of 7 HID lights, with the 5 center ones X/Y axis slaved to the steering column, for left/right swinging of the lights to match the direction you wished to go, as well as a small joystick on the steering wheel to move the lights down and up, to be able to see up sand dunes, or down into gullies where all of his buddies were to scared to go roaring through blindly. I had to make several versions, eventually beefing up the motion by heavy duty linear actuators, as all the rough roads and bouncing tore apart the original servoed systems.

The State Park rescue guys were interested to put the system on their vehicles, although somehow, nothing ever came of that .
