Anyone ever hacked the D40 Frontier/Navara computer?

Recently, a seemingly insignificant cable was severed, disabling the ABS. This, in turn lead, to the failure of the transfer case to engage 4WD. I wonder whether one could hack the computer to over-ride the requirement that ABS be function before 4WD will engage. Has anyone hacked the computer?

I scanned the page from the 4wheeler magazine. The override switch is just creating an open in the circuit.

I don't think an over-ride switch would cure the issue posed. If the ABS cable was severed, would that not have created the same electrical situation that an interrupter switch would (open circuit)? Sounds as if the over-ride switch would defeat 4WD rather than fix the problem.

My objective is, not to have the option to disable ABS, but rather to "hack" or modify the system so that 4WD engages regardless of whether ABS is in working order or engaged.

I'm thinking that the severed cable created a fault code, which may have been the trouble itself. Once working as Nissan intended would it be possible to pull the fuse on the ABS system without it affecting anything else?
If so, I'd then try 4hi and see if it works. If it does I would look in the wiring diagram for how the two systems are connected and modify that.
If it does not function with the ABS fuse pulled, then some hacking may be required.
First thought that I have is, is yours a U.S. spec vehicle, a European Spec vehicle, or ? Perhaps there is an ECU from some other spec that does not have this inter-relation?
