Anyone experience issues with brakes overheating?

Java - you dont happen to be in Kenmore? Was up there week or so ago and saw a rig very similiar to the one in your avatar. Think the beast is 9100 on paper.

The donor Dana 44 for the conversion could have come from a wide variety of trucks from late 70 thru 80s and 90's so I dont rightly now what or where it came from. Most 80-90's Dana 44s from research online seem to indicate the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton brakes could be the same. So I dont rightly now what I am dealing with and the builder says he wants to help me but cant seem to get the info from my build sheet.

Going to Schwab and see what they can do for me- ceramic pads might be the way to go.

Appreciate the input

Yep thats me. Right on 80th, beast is in the driveway in the front!

I think a good pad, ie better than OEM, may help. But like I said, heavy truck will never like stop and go. At 9100 your probably maxed on 3/4 ton brakes. Mine on one ton gear gets hot if Im in faster stop go stop go stuff, and long hills suck if I have to ride the brakes.

Too funny - the GF lives just up the road on a side street from you, we pass your house on way to take kids to school.

I need to hit the scale and see what the 3500 express actually weighs- what blows is am 3 mills thru a 7 mill pad with only 6k miles, so that ratio wont net me too long before i have to redo for a 3x time.

Going to see about new lines and ceramic pads.

Kenmore elementary.

Saw your new graphics on the rig looks good.

Ok so I take van to Les Schwab and they pull the wheels and to no surprise I do indeed have 3/4 ton brakes which match most 90's suburbans which they said are completely fine since I am not towing anything. 2nd issue they see is rear brakes are barely contributing any braking power. The adjustment is all the way out and the rear drums barely engaging. So $20.50 later I leave with functioning rear brakes. I put on 45 miles before left rear brake starts to stick and van squeals and shudders- so right back to Schwab and they back the adjustment out a bit. Another 45 miles and all seems fine.

Headed to mtns this weekend and will see if my brake woes are over.
