Anyone have a fullsize Jeep?

I'm currenty building a 1979 J series pickup. I plan on fitting it with typical expedition gear including a custom camper shell. I thought it might be interesting to share ideas with someone who has experience with the old Jeep Wagoneer/Cherokee or Pickup.

BKCowGod has had 2 J10s (I believe), and there are a few more FSJs running around on here. They are all nice looking rigs. There is a Waggy a few blocks from me that I know runs, but the guy never drives it. I've been tempted to go talk to him about it, just seems a little on the big side for some of the trails on the east coast.

It appears that FSJs may be the next vehicle of choice for 'pimpin' out, there are at least two in my town running on chrome dubs.

I am pondering a FSJ waggy right now, I went and looked at one yesterday. Been thinking about a expo build for it. I think they have a lot of potential.

Automotive ADHD is fun!
I traded in the '72 J2k (same thing as a J10) because I preferred the later interior and the hardtop and the slightly shorter wheelbase of the Cherokee Chief. They're great trucks. The driveline is thoroughly bulletproof, if you don't like carbs it is easy to retrofit EFI, and with proper gearing there is no reason not to get 15mpg out of the 360. Their real weak spot is in the rustproofing and the electrical system. If you watch the salt, and if you get the upgraded wiring harness from BJ's Offroad, there is no reason these trucks can't be a reliable and fun expo vehicle.

Here is a picture of my 1965 Gladiator, I've done quite a bit of work on it over the years, happy to help you however I can.

We built this thing as a parts hauler for our shop.
Highlights:
2005 5.7 liter hemi drivetrain
14 bolt rear, D 44 front with full dodge 5 link and coil swap.
heated leather power seats :)

As soon as I can get it out to cali, its getting some more love.
Adding an atlas, and probably throwing a D60 up from, then some 37" tires :)

Its nice to drive now. The Ford E350 Master cyl and all disc brakes makes it stop real nice. The front suspension makes it ride much better than my TJ ever has.

It was fun taking this from a barely functioning old truck to something that'll do 70 down the highway with no issues.
