Anyone have an XVenture by Schutt Ind ?

Does anyone with an XV2 (or M1101) have any complaints about the drawbar length?

I have a new to me M1101 which has a shorter drawbar. I would like to lengthen it provided there are no negative consequences, for a few reasons.

- It would allow room to install a utility cabinet such as the one used on the XV2.
- it would reduce the tongue weight from 13-15% depending on how much I lengthen it (12-14").
- It would minimally reduce the angle the trailer sits at if I do nothing with the stock H1 size wheels.
- It may lengthen it enough to give a greater margin against a jack nice situation when backing.

Having not measured either exactly, from what I have been able to get from the web, I think lengthening it 14" would give it a drawbar distance to the bed equal to the XV2.

Any suggestions are welcome.

MtnBubba - The drawbar length of the XVENTURE) is ~56 inches from the end of the max coupler. ~38 inches from front face of toolbox to end of max coupler.

If you do end up making a spacer for your existing trailer to increase the drawbar length we do recommend that you bolt the spacer to the existing center drawbar tube (instead of welding) as welding a spacer to the existing drawbar will likely weaken the parent material.. not that it would cause issue but just something to be mindful of.

Yeah, they are that HD & built to military standards. I have seen them in person. I have crawled on them, in them & under them. They truly are a "game changer". I really want one myself but do not have the funds for one now. Maybe in the future ???. Once you look at one in person, you will be forever changed. You have been warned.

They are certainly the most stout trailers I have ever seen. Tough in every regard. If you want a durable haul anything trailer the XV is for you, but they do have downsides. Firmer suspension than many other options and kitchen parts etc that are adapted to fit the military platform instead of designed to work together. There is nothing wrong with this, just the nature of the beast. Every trailer has its strengths and weaknesses

There is plenty of good battery options out there but we utilize the Odyssey Performance Series 75/86-705 AGM Battery with a 50Ah Capacity with most of our trailers. Dimensionally it is a good size and fits right underneath the Yeti 400 battery shelf. We offer this as battery kit which includes the battery, battery harness and securing strap if that is of any interest.

I got antsy last night and ordered 2 of the 75PC1230s They look to be dimensional the same as the 75/86-705 but slightly higher capacity. Hopefully they will work out fine as well.
What are you guys doing for chargers, inverters and voltage monitors (We will be ditching the Yeti)?

We've used the 75PC1230' in the past as well and they do have slightly higher capacity.

Regarding the Yeti 400 we do have alternative setup that we are utilizing now. The components include a NOCO 2-Bank 8A Battery Charger and a 15amp Zamp Solar Charge Controller which acts dual purpose as the solar controller and also the volt monitor. We have optional setup for 1000W Pure Sine Inverter (also Zamp).

I've found the 30a charge controller for about the same price as the 15a. Any reason, like dive, to stick with the 15a?

Charger seems easy. Each battery is connected to its own set of wires.

The batteries to the trailer should be in parallel correct? With the pos lead from one to the pos on the fuse box and the neg lead on the other to the beg on the fuse box?

4ga oka or should I go 2ga wire?

My apologies on the delayed reply! I assume by now you are all set but just incase you havn't wired the dual battery setup yet....

4ga is okay. We used 6ga on our jumper wires.

The batteries should be wired in parallel as shown in your diagram. For our setup that is pictured above we took the pos and neg leads from the same battery going to the fuse block..that being said though but I don't see any issues with taking the pos lead from one battery and neg from the other.

This is my impression. Things things certainly seem built to last (overbuilt for many people), but they also seem to primarily be intended to haul lots of heavy gear with the camping stuff (especially the galley) jury-rigged as an afterthought. Just look at the video of how to disassemble the galley; it looks like a giant PITA compared to simply opening and closing a cabinet with everything permanently installed, e.g Turtlebacks. I'm also concerned about storing the fridge in that apparently non-ventilated front cabinet, which makes it work much harder than necessary and could burn it out eventually. This was also a concern expressed in an extensive review elsewhere on this site. (Maybe the XVENTURE folks can set us straight on that if we're wrong.) Anyway, like Chris said, everything has plusses and minuses. If you want to haul a thousand pounds of equipment in Iraq and also maybe camp, this is the trailer for you. If you just want to camp, maybe not.
