Hello folks,
I have recently acquired a camper shell for our pickup, and we have been messing around with setting it up for, well, camping. I was looking at heating options like a diesel or propane forced air unit, maybe building a diesel heater-in-a-box to use to heat the camper as well as other things besides. But getting back to building something more permanent into the truck. Is anyone using a heater core and fan to heat something like a truck bed camper? I was thinking about something like this
The inside of the bed has some damage that has been repaired. I was thinking about cutting out the damaged portion and making a place to mount a heater. Then plumb some lines forward to the normal heater hose circuit. Probably include valves in case of failure. This could just stay mounted in the truck bed permanently and not take up space for when the camper shell is off and we are using the truck bed.
My thinking is this; the heater core could be left running all the time while driving to keep the camper warm or dry it out in the spring and fall. Probably most of the time this would be plenty warm enough for sleeping without a source of heat, or I guess in a pinch you could run the truck a little bit to heat it up again.
I don't really need to turn my camper shell into the Taj Mahal, but I'm thinking if the thing could be heated up and dried out it would make a big difference in camping quality of life.
I know most vans have a second heater in the back. Are they simply "T" ed into the circuit with soft or hard lines up to the engine bay?
I would be interested if anyone has a setup like this.
