Anyone own a Nikon F5?

As a hold out fan of film I've noticed that the prices of used F5's are very attractive. Add to this that I used to lust after this camera in the Nikon catalog but I knew there was no way I could afford it new.

So..how is it and if you can compare it with the F100 that would be great as that body is very interesting and also pretty cheap these days.

I used two F5's as my main bodies for almost a year. GREAT camera. Honestly I loved those things. I sold one after Nikon gave me my first digital camera, the D1. I kept my second F5 even after getting two more D1x's. I finally sold it when I got my D2x and realized I was not going to be shooting any more 35mm film.

I have been looking at F5 prices recently too, and I am finding mint+ units here in SLC for $500. That's a great price IMO. The F6 is 'supposed' to be better, but I'm not sure how it can be. Maybe a little smaller, but not that much better (but I haven't shot one so I could be wrong).

For my 35mm shooting now I have a Nikon F and a Nikonos I.

Get an F5 and take advantage of your wide glass and shoot some film! Yay film! :victory:

I still have my F5 and my N90s. Love those cameras. The F5 is a tank and the controls are very quick and easily accessible. The only thing I wish it had is an aperture dial on the vertical grip.

Cool shot Mike! I saw the F6 but it doesn't have a built in vert grip, you can get a vert grip-batt pack but you can do that with a F100 as well and pay less.

I was looking at the F5 listing you posted and saw that big, clear view finder, I've almost forgot how nice those are.
