Apparently I wans't the only one keeping an eye on the MacWorld Expo keynote news...

I had three seperate browser tabs open and refreshing to give me live updates. =)

Agreed that the Macbook Air is very sweet! I'd love to have one.

Ouch! The solid state drive nearly doubles the price.

I also noted the 45watt max power draw. That is quite good, and works with my "mobile" model for this coming winter and early 09.

Oh man, you can get it with a 64gig solid state drive too... Drool.

Thats great, but, thats one damm expendive drive. It's will set you back $999.

Yeah, unfortunately, the cool stuff is rarely cheap...

Well, the exception would be my new Disco. The deal of the century as far as I am concerned! :wings:

I still wish Apple would come out with a "Mac Toughtbook." I would drop everything and get one of those in a heartbeat!

You and me both brother... For a moment, I thought that was what this was, but not to be.

With the solid state drive though, I bet it is pretty tough. The Mac products tend to be pretty durable overall. Put a keyboard protector on it?

I'm also not to happy with the idea of not being able to replace the computers battery without sending it off to Apple. I could live with a tethered optical drive but that battery issue could be a deal-breaker for me.

I have also been very interested in the idea of using a Mac Mini as a carputer. It isn't the best Mac out there, but it is cheaper and rather rugged.
Some of the installs that I have seen on the web where really cool. Of course, it becomes a permanent member of your truck.

The battery can be replaced in store by an Apple Technician... no big deal. They couldn't have made this form factor work with a pop-out battery.

As far as a Mac Toughbook, they are already quite rugged. My father has given his old Titanium G4 Powerbook quite a beating over the past 6 years... and it still runs great!

Heck, I still have one of the original 1984 Macintosh computers... moved it several times. Still boots great, just doesn't do much. =) I've found that my Macs usually physically outlast their usable life due to technology improvements.

2x! I still have a Mac plus and a PowerMac 9600. They work fine but I don't have much use for them. The iBook we took through Africa is still in use. It got the *$% beaten out of it and still works fine.

cheers
