Apple MapSource info needed

Well, my dreams of a carputer are pretty on the back burner. I purchased a refurbished Garmin StreetPilot 2610 for navigation.

It came with MapSource NT v7. I know that I can unlock these in a PC and then transfer the unlocked maps to a mac and then use the mac to load the GPS unit.

My question is do you think it is worth ~$100 for the newer version of Garmin maps that are suppose to be Mac compatible? My internet searches have provided really meager info on how well Garmin and Mac are getting along and what all is compatible.

Any info/insight would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to have this system up and running for our "Family Escape" which according to plan begins next Wed.

Thanks.

Bobcat , Map install, webupdater, are all working well.

I sold my original maps and are looking to eventually purchase the Mac versions.

I have also not read enough info on the mac versions. Garmin really knows how to market :)
