I think im just going to go ahead and get the fourtrek... As much as I hate to spend 100 bucks on aluminum, I'd rather not see my investment toumble down the side of the interstate either.

Thanks, its a really stout product and I got good service from Luke over at Fourtrek. Simple to install and looks really sharp. I will admit that the awning with the short rack looks goofy so I may get the roof rack that was brought up in this thread and the extention that they make for my rack. No more road noise with it up there, maybe a little less then just the rack, not sure. But oh well, happy it's mounted.

For anyone else looking for the budget option, I picked up a few of these at Canadian Tire (these are the smaller version; the ones I got were 8 inches by 8 inches so were quite a bit bigger and more stout)

And a few 2 inch U-Bolts with nylock nuts to match.

A chain saw file was needed to make the holes just a bit bigger in the brackets for the u-bolts (took about 30 seconds per hole) and then I cut down the excess bracket with a hacksaw.

I've had my awning mounted for ~30,000 KMS through some rough terrain, and it never budged a fraction of an inch. All told, it cost me about $10 to mount up.
