ARB Fender guards

I have seen some photos of ARB bumpers with a guard that covers the front fender and ties into what I assume are sliders. Does anyone have any idea how they attach? I am eventually going to have a custom bumper and sliders built and would like to consider this option. I assume that they are semi-removable vs. welded to facilitate removal of the bumper. I have seen some pretty beefy clamps used in railing applications, has anyone ever used those products for a similar idea?

Thanks again

I just built my own :D Buddy of mine bent the tube and welded it up for me, since I lack those skills.

The only downfall is that it will require a sawzall to remove the bumper. One of the guys on UCORA.org suggested the use of these fittings should I ever re-do them. They are available from Ballistic Fabrication.

No, it can bolt on or off ;)

Too cool, I don't recall ever seeing the ARB front bumper, front fender gaurd and slider combination on a Disco, only on FJ60/62s and FJ80s. Looking forward to the pics and feedback. :26_7_2:

We have a set on the 80 series. They unbolt. There's 5 bolts on the bull bar, 2 that bolt through the upper hoop and 3 that run horizontal on the fender bar that increase pressure like a large c-clamp almost. The other side is supposed to bolt to the ARB steps, but those are not made for rocks.. so these have been modified to work with our Slee sliders (bolt to the frame with existing bolt holes). However, one side started rattling on the fender *(yep close fit).. so i welded it to the slider. The front bumper can still be un bolted and removed it need be. Also, our have been entirely re-done and made with thicker wall tubing to be stronger.

Remember, the ARB fender bars are not made to protect you from rocks or heavy duty wheeling. They will bend and create more damage to your fender if you go extreme rock crawling. They're made for the outback. If you want something for protection like a exo-skeleton, then do what IllianaXJ above did.

OK, if they are not made to protect you from rocks and stuff while 'wheeling (and throw trees in there), what are they designed to protect you from in the Outback? The bull bar I know is primarily designed to carry the winch and protect critical parts of the front end from animal strikes, but work fine against trees and rocks. I sorta fail to see the usefulness of fender tubes are if you can't bump rocks and trees. There's not enough meat there to protect from pinstripes and that's about the only other thing I can think of at the moment. I'm sorta picturing those nudge bars that people put on their SUV to make them look tough, but you're one shopping cart away from a visit to the body shop...

BTW, those connectors the IllianaXJ pictured from Ballistic are the bee's knees. Very cool and functional.

Dave , read this..

I agree, whats the point of having them if they turn into damage multipliers. But like i said, they're not made for hardcore stuff/hence the reason why ours have been beefed up. Anyways you cant get them anymore in the states anyhow as far as i know.

IMHO, i think they're intended use is for brush in the outback / minor hits.

Yeah, I didn't seriously think they weren't quite as bad as those silly cosmetic things... ARB makes plenty fine stuff!

The ARB ones are pretty stout in their stock form, each application is going to be different than the next, but IMO for overall fender protection they are better than nothing when needed. The most common types of fender damage IMO is trees/limbs, not rocks. If your getting into rocks above your wheels, your likey out of your element in most expy rigs ;) I've got a set I build on my FJ40 years ago, they can and have held my rig off of rocks and really increase the strength of the front bumper too.

100 Series ARB set I installed last week, wish I had snapped some closer pics of the attachment points, I'll have it back soon, when I do I'll try and grab some.
