I’ve been fed up with the mismatching of bags and storage boxes when I head out to the trail. Recently each time I load up, I've tried organizing the gear in a different way hoping that I could find something new that worked better than the previous trip. Creating a dialed in storage solution for the various amounts of gear we take out on the trails. I'll keep an updated photo of the setup up here at the top and update the different storage projects.
First big project...
And that is where the ARB Outback Solution Drawer comes into the picture. I was looking for something that would be strong, lightweight and easy to slide. While this is not one of the 'kits' they offer with vehicle specific side panels, I figured I would make my own eventually. Really, the drawer was the big piece of the puzzle that I knew I couldn't construct myself.
Basic rundown of the install…remove the drawer, remove the top, remove the drawer stops and remove the drawer from the frame.
Mmmm roller bearings and galvanized steel...
From there, bolt the frame to the body of the vehicle. I used some BIG Grade 8 bolts and huge washers to spread the load across the body tub.
I still need to finish trimming out the side of the drawers with with the help of some CAD (cardboard assisted design). From there, the plan is to turn it into part of a sleeping platform. Also going to add some additional tie down points and a fridge slide.
Really impressed by the construction and precision of this thing. Little bit of a pain to install, but it was worth it. I like the lock and the sliding top. My fridge will go next to the drawer, but the sliding top will help if I lose something deep in the drawer
