ARB Rear Tire Carrier Jeep JK

Does anyone own or have any experience with the ARB rear tire carrier for the JK? I really like the way it looks and am very fond of the door attachment. In addition, I'm a big fan of all the other ARB products that own. However, it doesn't look like there will be any accessories/attachments for the tire carrier (water, fuel, hi lift, etc.). I would like to pull the trigger on getting a tire carrier and was really happy to see that ARB had finally put one out.

The AEV looks to be setting the overland standard (loads of clever additions. I'm a sucker for those). However, I don't like how you have to sacrifice your back window with the AEV. The mounting position is extremely high. It probably makes sense from an engineering weight displacement perspective, but I use my rear view mirror all the time.

Are there any reviews/write-ups on the ARB?

thanks-

I think with any carrier you go with running a bigger tire, you're going to lose some view through the back window, more or less than others.

I wish I had gotten the ARB bumper/carrier for my Jeep but they didn't have it out yet. I ended up with a Poison Spyder bumper/carrier. I have a full face bumper from ARB up front but I'm going to sell it and get the stubby. I don't care that they don't match, but I still wish I had the ARB rear set up.

In the years to come I'm sure I'll be getting another Jeep, so I'll probably go the ARB route when that time comes.

I'd like to see a more up close look of the how the tire/carrier set up is worked in with the rear tailgate and how tough it is. See how much vibration there is and see how stiff the tire is mounted.

In the same boat. I want a front and rear bumper with tire carrier and have narrowed down to ARB and AEV. I am not a big fan of the AEV rear bumper with the tube and roto molded plastic parts. I really like the AEV tire carrier since you can add a high lift and some other goodies but just don't like the rest of the rear bumper. I have not seen an ARB in person so it's hard to commit. Goal is to buy a matching pair - front & rear. Definitely would like to see other members installs plus likes and dislikes.

No experience with the ARB but my ONLY complaint about my poison spyder rear is that it doesn't open with the gate but I see they have come out with one that does that now. Otherwise I'd recommend it, the tire height is adjustable has a hi lift mount (although a little high for my taste but there none the less) no rattles, opens easily, has a stop to hold it open...

Have you thought about just buying AEV's tire carrier and then getting whatever bumper you want? Wouldn't be too hard (or expensive to pay someone to do it) to notch out a bumper to clear the AEV's spindle. I have thought this would be the perfect set up with a low profile bumper.

If you select options you can omit the bumper and only purchase the tire carrier for $699

I have one on my 09 JKU. Installed a couple months ago. I am overall pleased with it. I have the stock bfg m/t mounted to a steel rim on it at the moment so not a whole lot of weight on the carrier. There seems to be a bit of vibration but i did skip a step that should prevent this. Will do it when I put the 35's on. Overall it's quiet but sometimes you get some squeeks when opening/closing tailgate from where a aluminum bar fit's into a teflon catch and sometimes when driving down bumpy roads(I do have a full soft top so I hear eveything outside). There is one tab mounted on the bar for a back up/rear fog light. With some fabricating you may be able to create something for a hi-lift. It's got provisions for high lift jacking points on both sides which I like. Bumper is hurkey as anything true to ARB quality. I will say this; I have not tinkered/ worked on fine tuning the adjustment since I got it so the squeeks and vibration will probably go away. I had a problem with the catch pin for the tire and gate, the thing that holds it open. ARB USA sent me a new grade 8 one overnight. I have a roof rack so attachement points for gear wasnt a selling point for me. As for ARB vs ARB I choose ARB for standardization of my build as well as price point. I will try to post some pics of the mechanism and what not soon. I'm at work so uploading pics is a bit of a chore.

Here are some pics of where the swing catches the tailgate. They are connected but move independently of one another through a couple heim joints and a turn buckle. Sorry for the pics but it's hard to get it all in one shot. I know it looks misaligned but it does move a bit up and down with the opening and closing. Some may also be the angle of the shot. In the last you can see the arm pivot point, the light tab and the catch pin.

Take a look at the Rockhard rear bumper. It holds 2 gas cans and jack and basket on top of tire. It does not rattle. The only thing is it does not open with the tailgate. I have had mine for 3 years and no problems.

I have their front bumper and LOVE it. My only complaint with their rear... is it's either 2 gas cans and have to deal with 2 latches, OR 1 gas can and the rack/rear door swing together.

I want my cake and wanna eat it too dammit.

I don't have personal experience but if you want a tire carrier that holds a bunch of other stuff the JCR offroad one seems like the best option to me.

Espo 78, do you own that bumper? Looking for some reviews, I like the option of having your cans lower than the LOD.

No, I do not own it. I've thought about getting it before but at this point I don't need to carry rotopax. One thing to consider with that bumper is it does not tie in with the tailgate if that matters to you.
