Finally getting to explore the endless land that is Alaska. I still have a lot to do to him before he is ready for the ultimate adventure, but this is what I have so far...
'84 Isuzu P'up (pickup)
4x4, diesel, small lift on MudTerrain tires...

:iagree:You should have seen it with big tires in the rear and little ones up front. Now that was redneck. Just me being impatient. I'll be going to a single larger stack soon, adding some racks and painting it. It should start looking more like a world traveler instead of sitting next to a bonfire with beer cans lying around. :smiley_drive:

I didn't even know Isuzu had a pickup in the US that early. Was that an Alaska special deal?

Cool truck! I passed up a "space cab" with a diesel a few years back :(

Isuzu had pickups in the US in the late seventy's. The 2nd gen (not sure about first gens) Chevy LUV's could be had with an Isuzu badge and a diesel. By the time the S10's came out I believe Isuzu went to their own body style (although S10's used Isuzu diesels still) then then in 94 the Chevy and Isuzu shared a body style again with the S10, GMC Sonoma and Isuzu Hombre.

Still kicking myself over the Mikado I passed up years ago. The 4wd isuzu pup with the chevy badges. I was driving a vw rabbit diesel pickup at the time. Someday the little diesels will come back I hope...

I had an '86 P'up. Great little truck. 2.3, Spacecab, 5 speed, over 200k. Sucker wouldn't die.

I had an 81 Pup diesel longbed that I bought new.

The Isuzu was far superior to the competing Toyota or Datsun diesels also available at the time.

Maintained it myself. Other than normal wear items like tires, brakes, fluids, etc., I replaced one water pump in its service life of 529,000 miles. It consistently got 42 mpg and at the end it was down to around 38 mpg or so.

The frame had finally rusted through and broke. We had to put it out of its misery or it would still be on the road.

The Isuzu diesel engine had been designed for a stationary generator set. Designed for long hours and an extended lifespan. Excellent engineering and manufacturing quality.

Had I Ziebarted that truck I'd probably still have it. It was a good rig.
