ARCTIC TOUR, exploring north-west RUSSIA

Hello

This is a little movie showing our 2015 ARCTIC TOUR from Switzerland/France to Murmansk in Russia. The goal of this expedition was to explore the Kola Peninsula, north-west of Russia, mostly over the arctic circle. In fact, we crossed the Peninsula, from South to North, from the shores of the White Sea to the coast of the Barents Sea, mostly off-road.
We left home (Switzerland for me) early saturday morning and quickly drove up across Germany. We met the participants at 9.00pm and took the ferry to Helsinki, where we arrived monday at 9 am. We then crossed Finland to enter Russia the following morning at 10am ( well… We were at the border at 10am, but we only "entered" Russia 5 hours later !), at the arctic circle level. Then the real trip began. And this is what the movie relates. This trip took place the first 3 weeks of september. We drove 6500kms / 4000 miles, spent 15 nights in the wild, 4 nights in hôtels/auberges, 3 nights and 3 days on the ferries.
We broke 2 winches (1 motor and 1 solenoid) out of 5, 1 AC radiator (the Hilux one, which was pierced by a branch). All in all, a great experience. I can't wait for the Arctic Tour 2016 (next edition: 3 - 24 september 2016)
Hope you enjoy.

Great video! Looks like you had quite the journey. I have always wanted to explore remote Russia, mainly for the beauty you've displayed in this video!

It's on my bucket list!
Question: Why did you go late in the season? Was it because of bugs, water levels?

Thanks for your feed-backs.

Mainly to get this festival of colors. Mother nature really produce an amazing show with all the trees turning to yellow, red blueberries leaves, larches turning to orange, and whitish-light yellow carpet of lichens. This is very spectacular.
Or course you get colder days and nights. But you also get the first northern lights, less mosquitos, and also you're right, less mud in some part of the taïga.
