are all rock sliders created equal?

Hello all, first post here (been lurking for about a year). Finally getting around to getting my '08 LR3 off-road capable.
first upgrade was replacing the 19" with 18" wheels, and putting GY Duratracs on them (265/65-18)
My next step is to get some underbody protection, starting with rock sliders.
I've found a few currently available, Tactical Rovers, Urban Offroad, Voyager. (any missing I should look at?)

Question is: It looks like the TR ones have a plate that goes a little more inboard, providing a little more protection. Am I correct with this assumption?
Or do all of the available sliders offer the same amount of protection?

other future upgrades include hidden winch, IIDtool, and roof rack.

I and many in the NCLR run the Tacticals. At least one guy took off a perfectly good set of Urban Offroad sliders to change to the Tactical based mostly on the added coverage to the frame rail that you mentioned. I haven't had my hands on all of them, but from what I've seen if I were building my truck all over again I wouldn't change and would order up a set of the Tacticals.

The Tactical's are near clones of the Rover Specialties sliders, which were considered by many to be the best available....back when they were available. RS has died and gone, so for now I say, Send in the Clones!

And my RS sliders are 100 pounds each!

I just took off a pair of aluminum Terrafirma sliders (same of the OJ LR4) to mount the tactical rover ones. Night and day difference if you want/need the protection. The Tactical ones are meaty.

I'd say you made the right move if you plan to wheel the rig much. I originally wanted aluminum as a weight saving measure given how heavy these things are to start with but realized you just can't lift them much or put on much tire, so you'd better put on a lot of armor if you plan to play in the rocks. You won't regret it!
