Definitely not looks. I had a hard side camper. Hated it. Ripped off parts on the roof just parking under trees on the street.
I think its a fairly large percentage of users that take their pop up campers offroad. No one buys one to camp in RV parks.
My rig is somewhat nimble (for a full size truck) and rarely sways going down the highway even in high winds. I can use a drive thru without worry if I wish.
There is definitely something about knowing a company has been in business for years and the design, while not the most modern simply works well and lasts.
The biggest drawback is noise. I camped in a resort this weekend and the noise did make sleeping difficult. Its a rare thing for me though and I was on the road while the motor homes and trailers were still packing up.
I have no intention of getting rid of my FWC because I'm retired and simply can't afford to go out and buy another rig (I am saving for a trailer down the road for when I'm too old and decrepit to use the pop up) but I do like that there are so many more options now than there were when I bought mine.
You'd probably get some different opinions if you looked at a different user base. Most people here are upgrading from a backpack or tent, not deciding between a motor home and a camper.
