Attic setups

After going through the various storage threads, I see some with attics. It got me thinking about adding one and want to see what everyone has for attics. What was used, what is kept there.....

I want to redo my roof rack and add reinforcing metal inside and thought that I could tie those into an attic setup.

I started with hose clamps to the existing handles to see if I liked the attic rack. That was a 1 1/2 years ago and I do like the rack but so far no upgrade mounting system.

Quoted from my thread

in the back of Patrol sits our Waeco 40L fridge on the left, next to that sits a large 40L plastic tub with all of the food. Ontop of this sits our clothes bags, then all the sleeping bags and pillows. Now this started getting messy and a pain to get anything. Luckily we already had a cargo barrier installed so I thought I'd love to get one of the purpose built ones as per this example

but they are hella expensive for what they are. I thought, while wandering through a hardware store, why not use one of the inexpensive clip and bracker style ones that you see in wardrobes. So $20 later, voila

works great, all the sleeping bags and pillows jam in the space and dont move at all, and no squeaks. Also is easy to take out if needed.

I dont have handles or anything. My current idea, if I can get it built before I change my mind again...:smilies27 is to use the aircraft L track as the roof rails, support underneath is from some angle aluminum and some adel clamps to hold the attic up. Debating on solid shelf or a cargo net.

Trouble so far is a release system to allow the attic to drop for access. one idea is a simple folding hinge like this with a pin to secure while up.

Wondering how long elstic nets will hold up before they get streched out?

Grimbo cant see your pix now. Work blocks photobucket. So sorry if your setup is like I just described. Had to write it down before I forgot. :)

I just added this to the rear of my Explorer. If I like it, I'll make a larger net and tighten it up a bit. I also added some loops to store my antenna.
