Auto to Manual Conversion

I've steadily been looking for the right Toyota truck to buy, but I'm not having good luck...I must be picky. I do not want an automatic transmission, and it seems that all of the decent deals are automatic equipped trucks.

So I'm wondering if anyone has performed an Automatic to Manual Trans conversion on a 90's+/Tacoma 4cyl 4x4? I've done several AT>MT conversions on various vehicles, but I'm not very familiar with Toyotas. I know Toyota parts interchangeablility is pretty good, so I'd imagine it'd be as simple as any other conversion...just wondering about the specifics.

Do V6 transmissions fit 4cyl?
Does the MT pedal assy bolt in to an AT truck?
Are the trans/case mounts the same or interchangeable?
Is the ECM going to go nuts without the AT, or can I simply swap the ECM from an MT in?
Any custom fabrication or welding required? (not an issue, just curious)

Just trying to familiarize myself with the conversion so I can start pricing parts and get an idea of the time frame and cost to do it. That way if I find a good deal on a clean AT truck, I can be confident that I can afford to do the MT conversion before I pull the trigger on the truck itself.

I don't know the answers to any of your questions but I just wanted to jump into this to say that from what I understand, Yotatech is generally considered to be the repository of most of the great technical info on Toyota trucks and SUVs.

BTW, if you could figure out how to stuff the 4.0 V-6, 6 speed manual/full time 4x4/locking rear diff drivetrain from an FJ Cruiser into a 4th gen 4runner, I'd be very interested in talking to you! :D

My buddy will be selling his tacoma June 1st. He is moving out of th country so that is the reason for the sale. Not sure if you are interested. It's 100 percent stock.

Silver 2004 Tacoma, V6, 4x4, 5 speed manual, TRD (factory rear e locker), extra cab. 140k miles. These are hard to come by especially with the manual transmission with the TRD package.

Totally not worth it for a 20 year old truck, way too much screwing around junk yards, unless of course thats your thing.
