If the panels are still usable just go check out your local fabric stores and get yourself a can of 3M upholstery spray glue and cover it yourself. It really doesn't take that much time and it's relatively cheap. If you need to replace the panels outright, go with what's been mentioned before about using wood and covering it with the fabric instead. Just use your old panels for a template.

Over on the vediesel.net and vwdieselparts.com forums, several people have posted up their successful replacement of the headliner fabric with felt purchased from JoAnn Fabrics and the like. they clean the panel, spray 3M glue, and stick it on.

Panels are fine, but need replacement for different shape.

Wood base is going to be heavy.

Still investigating options.....

1/8" Luan covered with a thin foam and some fabric will be lighter that the factory plastic.

Personally I'd go with a FRP product, similar to the products in the link I posted earlier. Light weight, durable and easy to machine, whats not to love?

you need to find a junkyard whcih deals with latemodel vehicles, the ones you mention sound like they are hackjobs. All the ones around here keep the vehicle up on a rack or in a lot and pull the parts as needed from the vehicles. Larger yards usually keep vehicles around for more than just their drivetrains and bolt-on panels.

you might have some fun with this page! or at least it will give you access to other yards in the area

I know this website and checking it periodically. Problem is not many options there. See as example '03 - '09 4Runner had 5-passenger and 7-passenger models. Those models have different interior, but identical exterior. Car-Part does not see those as 2 different models and neither yards. When I asked what model they have rear seats from, they can't tell, saying - you can come and see if it fits your truck...
