Well I usally have a husq chainsaw in the rig. And a machette for everything else. We use a variety of axes here more maintaining the river as well. Eastwings are a true work ax. You can beat the hell out of them no problem. They are axes, sledge, and prybar all in one LoL!

The best ax on the maket is Gransfor Period. These guys have been making axes for centuries and know their stuff. Weight, balance, grip are all part of making an axe perform. I have used just about every brand and in my personal tool collection I keep 2 gransfor nothing else. For multi day paddling and hiking trips I usually carry their wildlife hatchet for me. Razor sharp I can use it to cut meat or chop limbs for campfire. I also have the scandinavian forest axe. Gets it done!

I just picked up a nice FISKAR axe for $39.99 at Sears.

Seemed to work good this past weekend splitting wood for the fire. It's light and the handle will never break. It's damn sharp too. Small enough to mount on the rack.

These are great axe's, I bet you couldn't tell the difference between the two, nice sturdy tool. I love their hammers too!

I have one of these ( Gransfors Bruks) - nearly chopped of my fingers  until it dulled a bit...

i recently purchased an axe for similar duty along with camp/firewood use. i decided on the Gransfors Bruks and went with a relatively light model.

all told, i was very happy with the quality and build of the model. it's not plastic based, but think you would be equally happy with it and highly recommend.

I am looking for an axe with a plastic handle to keep in the jeep. Its primary job will be cutting back dead falls across trails. I saw some heavy duty fire/rescue axes but they might be overkill. Does anyone have an experience with these Gerber axes?

Virtually unbreakable polyamide handles and forged-steel heads. Camp Axe comes with a sheath, XL Axe Weight: 3.388 lbs., blade length: 3.88 in., overall length: 28.5 in.

Girlfriend bought me one for my Bday!

VERY nicely made and i will have it a lifetime for sure!

Havent needed it yet, but its construction is most impressive!
