I had ordered this before I read your reply, I ended up going with this one.
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/PLCM7200-7-Inch-Mirror-Monitor-Rear-View/dp/B000E1PXES"]Amazon.com: PYLE PLCM7200 7-Inch TFT Mirror Monitor with Rear-View Night Vision Camera: Electronics[/ame]

I'm pretty confident it will work out, but we'll see!

The main reason is to be able to quickly identify trail obstacles in front of you while cresting the top of a hill. In this instance your vision is to the sky. Does the trail go left/right straight down. Are there any rocks or drop offs? Is it a cliff/washed out.

It is also fun to watch the guys face in the high end car as you parallel park inches from his bumper.

Uhhhm . . . . Ok. And you mount the forward camera where? Up on the roof? Down on the bumper? Pointed straight ahead or angled down? Forgive me, I'm still trying to visualize how this would work. Thanks.

My front camera is 3M adhesive between the middle vertical slat on the grill. It has been there for several years. A little sun faded but still going strong.

The camera is angled down a little but gives a very wide view. Take note of the stool it is 2' from the bumper. If you look very closely in the monitor you can just barely make out the D-ring shackle mounts on the bumper. This is the farthest point on my bumper.

A photograph showing were the stool is in comparison to the bumper.

Here is a photograph showing the rotary dial and on/off button (blue light). Simple rotate the dial for rear camera Jeep, rear camera trailer, or front camera Jeep.

Rear camera on the Jeep is zip tied to the rack. Why because it is fast and easy to remove for when I take the hardtop off the Jeep.

Lastly here is a different camera that I am using on the AT Chaser Trailer. This one has inferred and works better at night but is not as wide of an angle.

This is my old Jeep. I did not have a camera on this one but it would have been nice. When you drop in to Heart Attack Hill you can't see a hole lot.

Here is what the rest of the drop off looks like.

Hope this helps!

Nice setup Gear. You had it professionally installed or did you do it yourself?

I get mine soon and I am unsure of how to splice it into my wiring harness. I was kind of thinking to just get a 12V cigarette plug and splice the monitor to the plug, since I have 3 12V outlets in my Astro and I don't want to cause a short or something.

Justin!!! Dude, having gone down that in the Cherokee, there is a HUGE pucker factor. I can't believe you did it with the trailer in tow!!! :Wow1: :Wow1:

That's a slick setup @Gear. It looks like that's the same system that Brady and company used on the Expedition West Tacoma. I'm contemplating getting the AEV tire carrier and gas caddy which would block what little rearview I have now. I thought about having the camera feed into the Nav screen. But that's probably better left as a radio or Nav screen.

How much do these systems cost? I just want a camera on the AEV mast and a small screen above the rearview mirror.

Rocks, etc. for precision placement off road and for not hitting anything in the garage.
I've been following this thread with interest as I'm looking around for for such a set-up too.

But I've been scratching my head and wondering why anyone would want/need a FRONT facing camera?

Maybe I'm missing something. (Wouldn't be the first time.) Your reasons, please? Thanks.

Ck EBay for wireless back-up camera systems. I brought one= 5" monitor and camera $69.00. Instead of hooking up the camera to the back-up wires, just hook the wire to any positive at the back area. At the monitor I used a 12V aux plug into the outlet on dash. As a test I hooked the camera and camera straight to the battery=work great. You can mount the camera any where, Front or rear of unit and does not have to be on the license plate. I mounted my camper on the rear of my camper.

What happened to Basement Yeti anyways?
He's a good friend of mine, currently without a vehicle living on the mountain in Idylwild, CA. He's had a couple bad medical bouts, lucky to be alive type stuff. He's taken to physical fitness pretty heavy and as a result recently had a modeling job for a specialized clothing company.
