Backyard Expeditions

Guess I'm one of the lucky few, living on the edge of the Lincoln NF, it's a 5 min walk to the nearest hiking trail, and 20 min drive to one of my favorite backyard overlooks.

Mill Ridge trail ends at an overlook of the White Sands NP area and to the western mountains by Las Cruces. One of my favorite get away spots.

I'm jealous of you guys. I don't know anywhere close enough to my current house to make a nice day trip worthwhile.

I understand that! It's about a 3 hour drive to get to the forest, then find a trail/road to explore, find a nice spot for lunch, find your way back out, then 3 hours to home. We've done it before but it makes for a looong day! I much prefer a quick overnighter even if it means finding a hotel near our destination to maximize forest time. Still, I love it, the kids enjoy the forest (just not being cooped up in the truck for 6+ hours for a daytrip)

I guess I am very very lucky

OK had to let u all know that my nearest track is less than 5 minutes up the road from where i live here in Tasmania.
I live in a village called Huonville. I am just 5 minutes away from a track called Jefferies Track that leads u behind our local Iconic Mountain called Mt Wellington.:wings::wings::wings:

God,s Country a Little Island just below Australia (Down Under)

Ps I can circumnavigate the whole island in about one day:smiley_drive:

NOT NEARLY as beautiful as some of the above pictures but heres my Heep going back my "driveway" in Southeast Ohio. I have to live in Toledo for work , but 250 miles away I can escape everything and everybody and enjoy the quiet times in the woods. It makes the drive worth it!

Snow x fouring in Northern Cal

One of my favorite ways to explore my "back yard" is the in the joyous season of WINTER in the SNOW! :wings:

Here are a few photos from last winter wheeling with my brother in our families "man truck" 72 Ford, and my best friend with his Jeep.

I hope this will be some inspiration for the up coming season!

An Hour North

An hour North of home. A day trip just following some dirt roads and trails, seeing where I ended up. After a short water crossing, no pics of the water crossing unfortunately:
