Most stable is the FLM Centerball 58 FTR

Thanks, haven. I'm in the market for a ballhead as we speak.

I had the chance last month to work with a colleague's Really Right Stuff ballhead and tripod. Wow -- very, very, nice gear. US-made, and appropriately pricey.

Really right stuff is the very best in my opinion, it's what I've been using exclusively for about a year... Even my gitzo traveller has a RRS BH-30 LR on top.

It's nice to see DPR reviewing tripod gear

I've been using Acratech ballheads for 10 years and I think they're the best you can buy for outdoor photography. One of mine is 10 years old and it works just as well today as it did on day one, despite looking like it's been to hell and back (in many ways it has). Their customer service is outstanding too, which is sadly rather uncommon in today's retail environment.

My 10 year old ballhead is the Acratech Ultimate Ballhead. I'm currently using the Acratech GP ballhead.
