So this van that is in Florida is an ex Maine vehicle and needs all new brake lines what else should I be looking for and expecting? He is firm on the $6900, should I just keep looking or sit his reasonable? It will def need 4 new tires but that's ok I can bug what I want:Wow1: any insight will be greatly appreciated, no sense in reinvent ingot he wheel, especially when you are challenged to begin with :chef:

The pluses for me are that it's relatively close, it's already 4wd, seems to be a good platform to start, it's gas, it's a ford and I can have the penthouse top that I want installed .

When looking at a vehicle I am always skeptical of ones that require some sort of minor repair before you can fully test that vehicle. Why wouldn't the owner fix the lines before trying to sell it? But that's not what you were asking so I will get to your question, you can replace them yourself for relatively little money ($200 or so including the purchase of a flaring tool) or a shop could charge you a lot depending on what needs done. My real question is why does it need new brake lines? If its because of rust then your going to have a heck of a time removing fittings and may have to replace quite a few extra pieces which can add up in a shop.

With that being said, I think it is a good price but you have to decide if its worth the risk and headaches that may come with it. I'm not saying he's a bad guy but I just wonder if there are other issues that show up once you fix the brakes and can actually test drive it. If it were me, I would wait and spend a few extra thousand on a clean one. That's just my opinion though.

While I agree mostly with Baw335, this seems like a pretty good deal. It couldn't be more than $500 or so even if you have to have all new brake lines run. I would take the hit and let someone else do it though. The fittings, etc. will probably be toast. I looked at the Ebay pics and the van really doesn't look all that rusty to me but I recently bought a Quigley from NY with only 20k and it already had lots of rust, which I've dealt with mostly. It also has had new rear brake lines from the ABS? box near the fuel filter back. Hard to believe anything could kill brake lines that quickly but road salt is satanic stuff. Expect all of the thin metal under the van to need attention if the lines are rusted through. That would be heat shields, any strapping, tranny carrier/support thing, probably the exhaust and shocks too if they haven't been replaced. The interior and exterior shots don't show any cancerous body rust so I bet the van is still a good deal, it's just not a steal because it needs some work.

Good luck!

UPDATE: talked with the dealer and he is firm at $6900 it's not drivable as there are no brakes except the E-brake. It is 3.5 hours away and I will need it transported over or need to drive over and rent a uhaul and tow dolly to get it back here to do the work. So besides the brakes yes def 4 new tires, does anyone know what size quigley used standard? I am guessing I am looking at $1000 just for tires and was budgeting $1000 for total brake job. This puts me into it for $9300ish, before I even drive it and find out what else might be wrong,ie steering components, suspension, trans, etc. I feel conflicted as it seems like a good van but it just seem like $6900 is-bit much I would feel a lot better at $6000. Suggestions/advice is def appreciated and that you all for weighing in, it's a big decision for me and my family.
