Little celebration for the first deer of the season!:) About a 200 yard shot, .308 Winchester silvertip, from my tree lounger climbing stand. Shot left just below shoulder, passed through to right, also right below shoulder. Climbed down and found him in the woods, maybe 50 yards from the hit. Another round to finish him (9mm, carried for this purpose)... and...

Meat in the freezer. Love this. Love the hunt, love the processing, love my beautiful wife, who takes over once I skin and gut the deer and handles the rest.

Pretty sure the down angle, plus the sitting position of the tree lounge, had me shooting a little low, but all's well that ends well. Ann and I are just now finished processing him and in the cooler to age a bit. I was about 30 feet up, on the edge of a field, next to our homestead, that I lease from the owner. He planted winter wheat (?) and asked me to shoot whatever I saw, since they are eating his profits... ummm... OK!

On a related note, this is my first deer from this tree lounger stand, and I have to say I like the comfort and the ease of climbing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvFQT8touPA

I wasn't sure about it, but can say... today at least, I love this thing!

Congratulations on the freezer fill! I was not so lucky here for muzzle loader season. Still better than the best day at my desk though!

Hey, at least you got one. The only thing I've seen so far have been does- except on either sex days when I didn't see anything. The game cams show them moving mostly after dark so I can't really complain, at least we know they're there. It's gotten a bit cooler so hopefully they'll be moving earlier this weekend when I go. :)

Yep, it is all processed and in the freezer. We had a cool down in temp yesterday and the deer reappeared. Raining today but I am hoping to get out this afternoon.

Ah, deer season. My favorite time of year! Just picked up a 460 S&W handgun yesterday. I don't like to track deer for hours :)

Nice. I took a doe last year with a 357 mag out of a 4" barrel. 25 yard shot, she went 20 or so yards and dropped. 125gr. Winchester silvertip. Good luck this year.

3rd deer taken this season tonight. A doe, decent size. My first with my Armalite M15. 18 inch barrel, match trigger, sweet shooting 223 wylde 1:8 twist, hit in the spine right at the neck. She was on the move, along with 3 other does. An 80 or so yard shot. Happy with the rifle, happy with the Barnes Vortex round

Nice channel through the muscle of the neck and the spine, big enough to push my thumb through... those petals on the bullet must really open up as advertised. I may put my 30.06 and 308 on the shelf for the rest of the season. Love this AR.
