Basic Adventure Trailer

Does anyone have a basic Chaser Adventure Trailer? By basic, I mean maybe one or two options. Is it even worth it to purchase an AT without the tent, stove and power options? Once a trailer is purchased is it possible to bring it back to add options to it? (Maybe the AT builders can chime in here).

Thanks!

This is actually a great idea for many people i think. When we first considered the AT...I was going to go super basic, just to get the trailer home and out the door. Then i was going to buy the options/add-ons from AT and do them myself as i could afford too. I figured, i wasn't really saving a whole lot... but i was getting the trailer like a year earlier that way. You can price out the trailer on their site with no options.

I am sure Mario and Martyn will chime in soon. Although I do not have the "basic" model Chaser, I would highly consider getting one if I were you. That is one of the things that drew me to AT in the first place. The fact that you can start with the basics, and add on at any time with the other options as you see fit/have the cash/get permission from significant other. It is a great way to get started with a trailer and not fork out all the cash at once.
Just one persons humble opinion.

As the other have said you can start out with a very basic unit and add to it. When we initially designed the trailers we tried to make it so every option was bolt on or could easily be added with someone skilled with hand tools.

Down load the price sheet from http://www.adventuretrailers.com/trailer_price.html and you will see how everything separates out.

As far as it being worth buying a basic trailer, I'd have to answer a definite yes. The foundation of the whole unit is an incredibly well engineered and built chassis, with the world's best suspension (and it's about to get better). Without this supporting the trailer body you really have very little. I'll admit to be slightly biased.

I've got to say a definite yes, the trailer is worth it in economy mode. The bones of the trailer are what counts and it gets you out exploring quickly and without tying your weekends up engineering something in the garage. I was just talking to Mario about some little rubber bumpers that fit between the lid and the main box and how one of mine popped off. Mario suggested I bring the trailer down and upgarde to the new felt gasket that will eliminate the rubber bumpers. That's what I love about this company, they do not leave you in the lurch and stand behind their products 110%. :victory:

Flash & Fang our AT attack dogs roam the facility at night hungry. We put their beds right next to the suspension testing area. :violent-smiley-031:

My original idea was to buy an Adventure Trailer to carry extra fuel & water, a refrigerator and just camping gear when I still had an '05 Rubicon. It wasn't going to be happy if I continued to add weight to the rear. I was going to skip the roof-top tent as it's an expensive option. My wife thought the roof tent was a great feature and 'why buy one without the tent'. So I ended up buying a Chaser with most of the options.

For about $5,000.00 you can have a Chaser with a lid and spend less than half of what a fully optioned trailer might cost.

I am in the category of AT on a budget. I was fortunate to find a Horizon for sale, a real steal, felt like I won the lottery!

Ever since I have been planning what mods and upgrades to do. The tent is very important! I think it just makes camping a completely different experience. Now it is time to upgrade power and those types of things.

Mario and Martyn, and scotty, are the best in the business and they do stand solidly behind any product they sell or endorse. Nothing but good things to say here. You can't go wrong with one of their products and you can always upgrade when it makes sense for you.

good luck

With or with-out the ground-up "doggie downers"? It might take some time ya kno......
;)

For me, getting the bare trailer would be necessary because I need to sit in the garage looking at it & visualize how things are going to go together & work simply. Once I had that picture in my head, then I could proceed with the additions.

OK, how about a compromise. You come to AT's film night and you'll be able to see for your self what's been happening in R&D. Might get a sneak peak of a few other test designs as well.

Thanks for all the responses. I am looking forward to living about a half an hour away from the AT shop.

For those of you who have AT trailers, what do you think is your most used option or most valuable option? I'm thinking the ability to have DC power would be very useful.

You mean DC power right?

Aside from the tent, I do think that the 12-volt system & battery is a very nice, useful option, mostly because it's for running my refrigerator.

I also like the water tank as fluids are heavy and difficult to carry safely. It will also help you put weight on the tongue/hitch.
