BBC story on Toyota trucks

The mid-size Toyota pickup truck, known as the Hilux in overseas markets and the Tacoma in North America since 1995, is something of a cultural icon for outdoor enthusiasts.

The author doesn't really know Toyotas very well. The Hilux and Tacoma are two completely different vehicles in design, engine, and specifications other than having 4 wheels.

Interesting article otherwise.

So, Toyota trucks popularity is due to product placement in "Back to the Future"? That explains it all.

Actually the current ones share a lot of the same components, such as rear diff, entire front suspension, the 5 speed manual (found in the 4cyl Taco), and auto trans. Petrol engines are the same. Body, frames and diesel engine option are really the only huge differences.
