My rig "gen 3" didn't come with a spare key or key fob. I called my dealer to try and have some made up. This is what they said. "The fob is gonna run 187.00 plus tax and a $75 programming fee, as for the key...we don't have a key machine we just have a locksmith come around every so often, I can call you and if you can get here when he's already here I can get you one made for $50"
Whaaat! So the fob will be $262 plus $50 for a key...if I can make it there when the locksmith is already there....No thanks!!!
So here is your solution.
Ebay key fob $53 + shipping

For the spare key. Locate an auto locksmith in your area. Cost me $70. Which was $20 more to cut out the middle man "stealership" but I got it cut and programed the same day I called the dealer.
As for programming the fob: it was the easiest i've done and took about 2 minutes. Here's a video for an 04 Evo but its exactly the same as the gen 3 monteros.

Also heres the link to the instructions on programming the fob.

I ended up saving around $180 bucks outsourcing and doing it myself.
Heres my new key and fob with the original.
