Before I do it, Window Tint ???

also remember that tint will obscure your vision at night.......and possibly make a LEO nervous if you happen to get pulled over too.

Tint is great. I have the tinted windows for the soft top on my LJ and I can tell a huge change from the clear windows I had on my JK wrangler. I do plan to tent the driver/passenger window. As others have said keep in mind night driving with the tint. When I had a little car I had a 30% full windshield tint and 5% sides and back and it was DARK at night but it never got hot in the day time.

Side note on the LEO thing, I am a LEO and if your windows have a decent tint and its dark and not raining, do them (us) a favor and just roll down the backseat window and driver window before we approach the car. It will take away some of the "nervous" feeling. Bad feeling to walk up to a car and pass by windows you cant see in...

Just a quick note about tinting. If you worried mostly about UV, tinting the windscreen (laminated glass) is not worth it. The transmission for both UV-A and UV-B is pretty close to zero through laminated glass. However the tempered glass side windows allow about 50% transmission of UV-A but still blocks most UV-B.

The majority of the radiative energy in sunlight is concentrated in the visible part of the spectrum, so the apparent darkness of the tint is a good indicator of how well it will reduce solar heating.

When I had tinted windows and on the rare occasion when I got pulled over at night, I would turn on the dome light and keep both hands on the wheel and didn't start fishing for paperwork until they were looking in the window. Only happened a couple times but drove away with a warning and a thanks from the officers.

I'm also on the fence with tinting my windows. My neighbor does it out of his garage and for a great price but I live in a somewhat rural area and it is quite dark at night. I'm concerned it will greatly reduce my night vision.

I have had them on all my cars. Quite dark in some cases (almost manditiory living in the South West Desert) when ever stopped be LEO I either roll down the windows or turn on the lights...or both. This has actually got me out of more tickets than you would believe. I was once told it was a "nice sign of respect" by making his job easier.

I have always rolled down the windows, had vehicle turned off, keys on dash, dome light on, hands on wheel, license and registration in hand when pulled over for ticket.

One ticket for tint was in the winter on 395. We were with a caravan of cars. One car had a load of knuckleheads who thought it was funny to say that all the beer they just bought was for the drive from Bishop to Mammoth. God bless the clerk, she called the CHP, who pulled us all over. The officers concentrated on the offending idiots (who BTW, were not drinking and driving). He told us to hang tight and we could leave soon enough. As i sat in my truck with windows up staying warm, his back-up comes from the other direction. The first officer was going to let us all be on our way, but the second CHP felt that someone needed to get a ticket for something. And being an idiot by itself isn't illegal in California yet so i was the only one that had a ticketable offense, and got the fix-it ticket. First officer actually apologized for his partners nit picking.

The other time I got caught with tint on front windows the officer saw it well before he got to the front windows. Both of which were down when he got to the truck. Didn't put it back on. Wasn't worth the hassle.

I have dark tint on all of my windows, including the windshield, came that way when I bought it. I know in Ohio you must have 50 % light able to pass through to be legal and this thing aint legal!! But yes it does keep the temps down inside. Guess I will leave it on until I get stopped and or ticketed....

I have 50% on front windows, 35% on rear windows. I forget it's on there til I roll down the window or get out, makes huge difference even just if it's not super dark. On my FJC having the white roof and tinted windows, The inside never gets hot really (enough that just rolling windows down slightly wouldn't fix).
