Beginning a Disco II Build: Terrafirma winch bumper and Viking Winch

Hi all, I've just began building out a 2001 Disco, and while I've been lurking for a while this is my first post here. My desired endstate is to have a truck to move to the west coast later this year and have something to go explore the big national parks and BLM land with on weekends. Here are some pictures of the first steps:

The bumper and the lift are from Terrafirma, and the winch is the newish Viking GS-9. I'll admit that part of the reason I went with the Viking is that I dont know anyone else with one. I keep telling myself that this is supposed to be a utilitarian truck, but I went for a little sex appeal on the winch.

I had also intended to install a set of rocksliders, but I recieved two passenger side rails... Once that is sorted they'll be next.

I really like the Terrafirma bumper on the black Series II. I've never really like the TF bumper, but it looks dead sexy on yours. Nice work.

How do you like the lift? I had OME on mine and was impressed all in all, but you could definitely tell it changed some of the characteristics of the suspension. What's your impression of the TF lift? Which shocks did you go with?

Thanks! I think the combination looks good too, it's not as ostentatious as a big bull-bar, I think the minimalist look works on black.

The lift is the TF230 (+2", HD). It's definitely more "truck like" and not as floaty as stock, but I've never driven an OME setup so I cant compare directly. If anything, the suspension feels like it would be well served with a little more weight, the same way that an empty pickup feels a little edgier than it does with some weight in the back. It also feels a little more prone to drift and bump steer on the highway, I'm not sure if I'm just paying more attention to the corrections I'm making or if the geometry of the front end is that much different though..

I agree, TF bumper looks amazing on black DIIs. Are you near the ocean at all? I'd recommend at least spraying those bolts that hold the windshield wiper fluid bottle guard black, I've seen them rust rather quickly when exposed to salt. Also interested about that Viking winch, looks great and I'd like to see how it performs/lasts.

Anyone ever try adding a brush guard to the TF bumper? I like the overall lines of the bumper but would really like a brush guard too.

I am, and I'm tossing around the idea of an outer banks/core islands trip, so that's a good idea. I'll definitely post up a review of the winch once I put it through it's paces.

I've never seen one, but the bumper sits so close to the grille and lights there wouldnt be much room. I had considered drilling holes for lights and now that I see how little horizontal space there is I've reconsidered.

There's a very cool factory LR light bar that mounts perfectly above the Terrafirma bumper, very sleek. A friend of mine did it to his.

I didnt know that, I'll have to hunt it down, I'd like a little more light but a roof rack is way way down my list of priorities.

Man, I'm not sure why, but all of a sudden the TF bumpers have struck me. I wasn't a big fan when I first saw them, but now they're appealing to me...maybe even more so than ARB. I really like the addition of the light bar and the tow points stand out nicely, breaking up the front face a bit. Good looking setup.

They follow the lines of the vehicle very well. The bumper is quite recessed into the front rather than the ARB that sticks out too far. Overall it's a great bumper at a great price.
