Bench to buckets?

I've got a bench seat in my 01 Taco, I am really jones'in for bucket seats. I guess the easiest way to have buckets is to go to a salvage yard and pull some Tacoma seats out of an ext. cab model.

Has anyone done this? Is it going to require fabing up new brackets? Or will the stock mounting frame/brackets bolt right up? I'm also considering using Corolla seats, as they are WAY more comfortable than Tacoma seats (in my opinion).

Thanks in advance!

Not sure on the 01, but my 85, the mounts were the same for the buckets and bench. I went from buckets to a 60/40 and it bolted in fine. And iirc the bench was from a much newer model.

I'm not sure about the Corolla seat (good idea btw) but I know 4 runner and Truck seats of the same gen should bolt up to 3 holes and only leave you figuring out the last hole. This is what I've read while researching the same idea in my truck. Never did it, I have quite a bit behind the seat and don't want to loose the storage. Also, I'm a big dude, the buckets in my 99 taco didn't really fit me. I prefer the bench for that aspect too.

Lots of swaps all over the web. Scion seats, Honda seats, Volvo seats, I've seen a ton of swaps.

Cheers,

I did this swap in my '94 pickup. I had the 60/40 split bench and switched to SR5 bucket seats. The passenger side bolted right in, but the driver's needed a little more. The front two bolt holes line up as does the rear outer (nearest to the door). The fourth, nearest the center console, didn't line up...exactly. That hole, in the seat frame, lined up with the bench seat seatbelt hole. I had to use a nut/bolt and seal the under side and relocate the seatbelt to the proper, bucket seat, location.

With a little fanagling, and maybe some donated blood (sliced my hand up good on the under side of the front, inner bolt hole bracket) you can probably make the switch somewhat easily. ...that is, if the Tacomas are similar to the older trucks at all with respect to seats. Oh, I should also note that where I relocated my seatbelt was marked from the factory by a little indented circle.
