BEST MADE LARGE RTT FOR SOUTHEAST U.S. (HUMIDITY AND HEAVY RAINFALL)

So guys I'm new to RTT.. I'm looking for something very well made, sleeps 4 plus and can deal with the heavy rainfall and humidity of NW Florida.

I assume all aluminum, no wood and large zippers wood be a good starting point?
also, can you judge a good tent by the weight of the tent?

all info greatly appreciated!

2 adults, 5 kids (oldest 9) more than likely it will only be myself and the 3 oldest kids in the tent for a few years...

You'll be better off in a pop up. I know, I know its not what was asked. However, 4 people in a Florida downpour with lightning in a soggy RTT isn't my idea of a good time. I grew up in Florida, I have one of the biggest RTT ever made mounted on a trailer and I have 3 kids. For a family a popup trailer is the best choice... it might not look as cool for some, but your kids and wife will have a much better time riding out the afternoon storm while playing games eating snacks and being able to get dinner cooked.

However, If you want me to answer your questions, I would go with Ezi-Awn, their track record is second to none.

Funny you should say that, the pop up is also one of the cheapest, largest height and open options we have looked at(so my wife loved it :) ) but I was concerned about how rugged and durable it would be as I dont want to be limited on where I decide to go- mountains, pig trails etc...

Tepui offers an all mesh body in some models now. I'm not sure if you can order it with the mesh body or if it's only available as an add on. Link below.

There is also the new hard shell RTT from iKamper. They also offer an all mesh body and it will work with their annex room or large canopy. They only have one model and it's a king size bed. Link below

Hope this helps.

Is ikamper actually selling anything? or are they just an idea looking for funding? Oh no - order now and delivery might be as soon as September...

Take a look at the XL models from Tepui. The Kukenam XL will sleep 4, and the Autana XL will sleep 4 with room for more if needed in the annex.

I live in MS and have an RTT. The best design of RTT's are the windows with the awnings so that the windows can be kept open when its raining. Also getting off the ground helps with humidity. Make sure you buy one with the poly-cotton canvas. Canvas just breaths better and that is usually the difference in price with the cheaper tents. Mine stays dry in really bad downpours. A good quality RTT is the best option for tent camping in the humid south imo. I use the annex also, lots of dry space when it rains.

For a family the size of yours and if you needed to stick to a roof top tent instead of going with a camper....I would go with the CVT Mt. Denali with an annex. It's a huge RTT. Get a few cots or mattress pads so some can bed down in the annex and you are set.
