Best mug for camping

so I don't want to get too deep into the research for a new coffee mug for camping. But I'm in the market for one.

Just curious what others here on the forum use.

I've seen all the fancy "overland" themed enamel mugs that I think are kind of expensive for a standard enamel mug with a screen printed logo on it. If enamel mugs are great then I'd just get a standard one at REI or something.

I currently have a 20oz REI mug that does the job fine but it's kind of big. www.rei.com/product/857303/rei-recycled-camp-mug-20-fl-oz They offer one in a 12oz size so I may get that.

I'm open to other brands and styles and just curious what others are using. :coffeedrink:

I just got a YETI mug for Christmas and I think it is really great, however they only come in 20oz and 30oz and neither have a handle. But they really keep cold things cold longer and hot things hot longer. I really was surprised by how great it worked. Good luck in your search.

Huge fan of the hydro flask mugs and bottles. I can make coffee in the morning and if I warm the mug up first with boiling water it will still be piping hot in the after noon. they have all sorts of sizes and shapes and are well worth the money. I have had one for about six months and just got another as a gift over the holidays.

When I backpack I would bring a back country bristo mug that had a french press built into the top. Great mug super light and it saves you from bring a tool to make coffee and a tool to drink coffee. They are jut made from plastic so I had doubts about how well it would hold up but I got several years of hard use out of it including a year wehre i was working as a professional guide and spent six months over the course of the year in the back country.

Cotigo or Aladdin

Aladdin makes a great metal cup with lid and handle (approximately 16 to 20 oz) and it is available at Target for a fair price. I also have two Contigo cups. I use them when on to motorcycle because you can drink from them without taking your eyes off the road. They also have a lock and they do not leak. My Contigo cups came from Costco and I hear that Walmart carries them as well. Sportsman's Warehouse carries a similar version with a bit larger capacity.

Hi

I use Primus Commuter mug. I have that in steel and also comes in plastic. When driving I operate it with my right hand, just press the red button and I can drink.

Kleen Kanteen makes a wicked vacuum insulated all stainless mug. I had to stop using in when I lived in Georgia because it was noon before the coffee was cool enough to drink.

My camp kit includes one of these Stanley Mug/Bowl sets for each person:

When nested, they're "double" insulated, so will keep food/drink warm for a long time. When needed, they serve double-duty as handled bowls AND a mug at the same time. Even better, the GSI "stemless" wine glasses will nest inside, so you actually have three pieces that nest in the same volume. (The "wine" glasses work perfectly well as small tumblers, everything from the kiddo's OJ to my scotch goes into these on a trip)

The yeti mug is pretty impressive in regards to keeping warm stuff warm. I got both sizes at Christmas and wish I had 2 of the smaller ones instead. Coffee in at 5:45, still hot at 7:00, and still warm at 9:30. Pretty good for not being 100 % sealed.
