Gatorade 32 ounce bottles have been the standard forever. On big walls our go-to was gallon apple juice bottles. Talk about making sure to mark your bottles well.

When I was younger, I always wondered why OTR truckers didn’t like to drink apple juice.
I mean, on our long western travels I’d so frequently see clear plastic bottles set alongside the roads that were half to 3/4 full of some kind of golden liquid shining in the sunlight….it all looked pretty much like containers of apple juice going to waste to me.
So I’d be left questioning, why did these OTR guys (my guess) keep buying juice only to decide later they really didn’t like drinking it and then just chuck the bottles out the window to add to the road shoulder trash. ?

yea tip that over in the night and see how well it seals lol...if throwing it outside make sure the wind is not blowing lol.

we always called those urine bombs...there was a big clean up campaign a few years ago and they reported they were overwhelmed with the amount of urine bombs along the highway.

Concerning peeing in bed:
- I think Murphy's law applies here.
- I cannot easily change bedding after an accidental spill. It involves driving to a laundromat. My mattress is protected.
- As I have aged, urination has become a harder and longer process. Standing improves flow and complete emptying of my bladder.

I think you're not alone in that. It's a matter of Leave No Trace in some cases. Even if you could rationalize taking a leak in-situ on a multi-day climb it's the fact that letting 'er fly almost always results in someone taking a disgusting mist shower is enough to justify it. The last thing you want to do is literally piss-off the guy at the other end of your belay...
Same with caving. The liquid isn't going anywhere and you're very potentially adding moisture at a 100-year rate to the local environment. So pack it in, pack it out is an absolute sometimes to protect the environment.
Car camping, yeah, I'll be honest I almost always just get up. But there's still times when it could be a decision. Like when you cold weather camp and need to get into boots and/or gaiters for snow. That's not just a mountaineer's problem. I'm lucky with my "RTT" being a WilderNest since I have an anti-room (the bed of the truck) where I can stand up to put on shoes or clothes. I'd suspect having no annex on a RTT would make that less attractive, maybe? I dunno, just spitballing.
The Nalgene Wide Mouth Rectangular Bottle (64-Ounce) work for me, and I don't worry about confusing them with my 32 oz cylindrical Nalgene drinking water bottles.
For women, add something like the Lady J.
For anyone who might consider it, I'm able to use the wide-mouth Nalgene bottle while on my side, while my girlfriend needs to be more vertical. We don't have any kids, but, it isn't tough to stay covered up while urinating in to a wide-mouth Nalgene bottle, with the right sleeping gear. Warmer that way too, especially at -20 F.

Yup! The Nalgene Wide Mouth Rectangular Bottle (64-Ounce) is cheaper than a toilet + tank, takes up a lot less space, and, if I leave it under the covers to keep it from freezing when it is -20 F, I don't have to worry about crushing it if I roll over on it in my sleep.
... ... ... By the way, I don't smoke, so maybe that is why I can afford it. Please don't have a stroke, but, I actually have TWO of them, and I have traveled over 40,000 miles with them in all sorts of weather.

I’m amazed no one has recommend indoor plumbing on the thread yet!!
My wife and I lived in the RTT for 6 weeks this past summer and she was in her first trimester of pregnancy - for the uninitiated that means needing to pee every 15 minutes - 3 hours. She’s a fan of the Shenis when we’re out hiking (playing swords with your wife is weird but also fun) so we got a second one and connected it to about 10ft of black tubing, which we snaked through a small hole in the base of the tent and ran down to the ground. It worked so well for her I started using it too! Doesn’t require shoes (damn those RTT ladders are brutal on bare feet!) or a light. Also, no bottles of urine in the tent to deal with later.
In the below photo you can see it hanging down in front of the tailpipe. Worked like a charm the whole trip! We’d typically set it up to drain under the truck, often by morning there’d be no trace.

I think a lot of men on this thread are ignoring the fact that Urologists world wide are adamant about and united in their recommendations about getting out of your vehicle, standing and completely draining your bladder as a preventative and potentially life extending procedure. There is even evidence of this.

Putting lightweight lengths of pool noodles (or of styrofoam plumbing pipe wrap) over those cold, skinny ladder rungs makes climbing them much less painful, FWIW
