Yep. I think new they're about $20? We're too paranoid about what could have been in there before to buy used.

Who knows, maybe the previous owners mixed up the water jug with the pee jug, lol

Wife doesn't even like reusing a jug that had non potable water in it for drinking water. Once it's had non potable in it, it can never be used for drinking water.
I only use 'used' for non-potable. I agree with your wife (but don't let her know that, or she will used that against you ;) )

Up to @zimm17 to decide if the $$$ is worth it. I'm just passing along a suggestion.

Personally, this is what I use for water at the campsite:

Well, full disclosure... we use the trailer water tank for flushing the toilet, brushing teeth, showering and dishes.

For drinking / making coffee we bring those 40 packs of bottled water from Costco.

I use this 5 gallon jug for rinsing out empty wine, beer and pop bottles and dousing the fires....
I have/use that same jug in 7 gallons.

Your wife is right in general terms. A lot of products linger in or on a container's surface to taint the water's flavor at best and can cause bad health effects in extreme cases.

Bleach and similar things are a bit of a grey area for most people. I keep some around to disinfect drinking water.
