Best way to seal bulkhead grommet after passing wires?

Hello:

What is the best way to seal a vehicle firewall bulkhead grommet (to seal out water) after passing several wires through it??

What has worked well for you over the long term and what has not?

I know I can just apply a fair amount silicone sealant around the wires, but I was wondering if that is the simplest, effective, and more practical method.

Thank you,

yes, 100% silicone. Sticks to just about anything while remaining removable. Better yet you can stick the caulking applicator tip into the grommet from a couple angles, injecting enough to really seal things well, if you want to.

OP left 'cheapest' out of the criteria. One could always install some sort of weatherized bulkhead wiring connector for a lot of extra effort and expense.

Careful with using silicone sealers. Some contain ammonia products which can be destructive to PVC jackets on the wire. Hot glue is an excellent method especially if working with multiple individual conductors thru a single grommet hole. Heyco cable glands posted above are the best.
