Best websites to find used pop-up campers?!?!

Hi,

Seemed every time I searched google this website would pop up so I decided that it was probably in my best interest to join and try to pick your brains for information.

My girlfriend and I are in the market for a pop-up camper...sleeping on a platform in the bed of the truck for 3 months out west every summer is getting old. I have a 2010 Toyota Tacoma with the 6ft bed. I've been looking for flip pacs (really hard to find a good used one, or a used one at all), and our budget is unfortunately not that big <$6000. Also, we have just relocated to TN from CO and I'm finding that all the truck campers are back out west!

Any tips for looking on the web? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think craigslist.org is as good as any. Many dealers also post inventory there.

Here's a Wildernest in Georgetown http://denver.craigslist.org/rvs/2920220499.html They're no longer made but are highly sought-after. It's similar to a Flippac except the tent opens to the side. They do vary in condition--some need some work.

Pop-up slide-in campers show up there too from time to time, but they're a little tricky to search for, because the search term "pop-up" yields mostly trailers and "slide-in" gives you a lot of hard-sides.

Here's a Hallmark in Centennial for $650:

There are some camper dealers around that stock used inventory as well, such as:

http://www.hallmarkrv.com/page/1003/used.html?inet=aD1oZnJxLXlheCZyaD11YnpyLXlheA (they have a compact Shadow Cruiser at the bottom for $2000)

http://www.fivestarrv.com/ (They don't have any used ones listed right now, that I could find)

As you noticed, availability is limited, especially for compact-truck campers and expanding shells like Flippacs. Availability is also usually better in the Fall than in the Spring.

I found a compact-truck pop-up on Craigslist a few years ago (in the Winter) for $500 and put some time into it, mainly cleaning, painting, varnishing and simplifying. I love it.

Good luck, and Welcome to CO!

Eric

+1.

Wanderthewest is a great resource. Ski3pin (I think that's the poster's name) is a hawk surveying the online classified ads and posting links to the WTW 'for sale' forum.

Usedfourwheelcampers is where I found my loaded Fleet with 3 days total use with several thousand dollars knocked off the purchase price.

At both sites one can find the full range of campers from clapped structures for a couple hundred dollars to pristine condition 'experimental' units.
