I see these type of quote often and I wonder if the posters actually have been out off road and compared performance side by side against other brands.
Mud performance is OK and on par with other similar streetable "mud" tires. It is certainly not "very, very good". You need proper off road tires for that. Performance is other area is decent and they are very robust, which is quite important. They are not great in ice and snow, but I doubt that is a concern for the OP.
Again, it comes down to what terrain you want to operate in and the rims. The OP is in Australia and may be doing a lot of work on soft sand. If that were the case a 235/85 BFG MT would not be my choice.
Hmmm, called out. Reckon I'll have to defend myself here.
Compared to Goodyear MT/Rk, the BFG blows it away in the mud. Same with the old KM and old MT/R. This observation comes from field observations (typically in the form of two highly similar Jeep Rubicons, just with different tires, for direct comparisons that is pretty close). Of course TSLs are better in the mud but they are pretty dismal on the road (I have a set of TSLs). This comes from personal experience as I have a set of TSLs. On dry rocks the MT/Rks perform well but here in my region, there are no dry rocks. Once again, the KM2s perform well once aired down on rocks, even when wet/covered with mud. I could go on but no use.
Been wheeling with my friend who has XZLs on his disco. In the thick stuff they do clog up which was surprising since they have such a wide lug pattern. My BFG KM2s cleared out better (once again, surprising).
Lastly I'd like to reference that I am referring to off roading in the southeastern part of the US. Mud is on everything, even the trees. That is just how it is. Hence why I say if you are dealing with a lot of mud, the BFG KM2s are a great choice. On road they aren't so bad. No clue in sand, snow, or ice. I've seen pictures of mud in Oz, but I don't know if that is what the OP does. Also Red90, I have no idea what the terrain is like in Calgary. If you have lots of mud, rocks, and mud covered rocks, the KM2 is a good streetable tire.
