Looks awesome! I have been saving my pennies for one of these, but only the one bike model with a single extension. I never carry more than two bikes. Can you still tilt the rack down to access the back with 4 bikes on it?

why is it so great? can we get a little more behind your happiness rather than just, hey im happy

-The build quality is amazing.
-Every single piece can also be replaced if you ever caused damage.
-Does not rattle or shake at all on rough roads. Very sturdy.
-Made for "offroad sturdiness," while the other brands that I know of state, "not for offroad use."
-bikes at an increased angle which increase approach angles.
-Great customer service.

You can tilt it down, but I wanted more room. I got an 18" extension, as well as a 8" drop bracket. This enables me to open the rear tire swing out, gas can carrier, and open the rear hatch with the bikes in the upward position.

That being said, our bikes are light so we never exceed 300lbs or the 400lb limit. The rack weighs 100lbs (4 bike rack), so if you are going to do this method with 4 bikes, you will want to make sure it is on a bigger truck with a heavy duty hitch.

Suggestion. Use lots of loctite!!! They are nice but have an insane number of fasteners that can work loose on a dirt road.

Not to hijack, but if you are looking for a different type of offroad bike rack, you should check out ReconRacks from Bellingham, Wa.
I am not affiliated other than I think more people need to use a burly rack that can carry many bikes to your shuttle spots.
The owner, Cody, drives and rides harder than anyone I know. He built these racks to stand up to the rigors of his driving/riding style

I was interested in a rack like temple posted, however a mountain bike with both tires installed is considerably wider than a 3rd gen 4Runner. I had interest in finding a rack that was high off the ground for a decent departure angle and one where the front tire was removed and bolted directly to the rack for a solid fit. No one made such a rack until my buddy made his own. His worked so well that I shamelessly copied his design 100%.

For a size comparison, a 5th gen 4Runner is 10" wider than a 3rd gen, and that difference in width really shows when you put a bike on it. (I was surprised to learn that a 5th gen is actually wider than both a 100-series Landcruiser and almost 1.5" wider than a 1st gen Tundra.)

This DIY design works really well compact trucks/SUVs.

I've been searching for a system that would accommodate my fat bike. I think I just found it.

I like this design, do you have a link to any additional info or pictures?

Recently I got a Yakima Holdup but don't like the fact that my bike is wider than my SUV. Removing the front wheel as on your rack would fix that.
