Bishop Creek today

Wow what a day!!! Ive been fishing for my entire 28 years of life, and Ive never had a day like this!!! Didnt feel like retyping the whole thing so I just copy/pasted from a fishing forum Im on.

Made a day run from home (Lancaster) up to Bishop Creek to do some fishing. Started out at Weir Pond figuring it looked like a good place to play around with my new rod and a few techniques I read about here and another fly fishing forum.

Get rigged up and on the water around 9am or so, using my TFO Finesse series 4w with floating line with a dry fly for an indicator and a small (#14??) yellowish colored stonefly nymph.

So I get out in the water and start working some line off the rod so I could attempt a decent cast, kind of aiming into this pool where the creek comes into the pond. Drifted for couldnt have been more than 10 seconds and this guy nailed it!!!

So after I let him loose and watched him swim off, I go back to throwing flies, when I noticed that fish were feeding on the surface. I threw my flies over that way, no interest in the nymph, but I had a couple of passes at my indicator, so I said "WHat the hell, why not?" Took the nymph off and started messin around with dries (first time seriously trying with dries). After trying a few different flies with no success, I tied on a small gray mayfly (I think) with a vertical wing. After a few false starts trying to figure out how to get a nice drift....

AWESOME!!! Im having a ball by this point but all good things must come to an end. Fished for a while longer, but while I got what I thought were more hits on my dry, I wasnt able to hook any more fish. I started working my way back to the truck, when I saw a fish-like shadow in the same hole I got the first fish in. Tied the nymph back on and toss her in. Third try and...

So after having a little lunch and loading up, I head down the creek to try my luck elsewhere. Found a section that no one was fishing, probably because the creek was raging and this was a fairly steep section with lots of whitewater. Decided to try it out all the same and ended up with these guys. Used the stonefly nymph beneath a Thingamabobber indicator for all these.

This last one was really fun because it was a "A River Runs Through It" kind of spot. Was in the water trying to skirt some serious whitewater when I noticed this little eddy behind a rock on the far side. Took a couple of tries but I finally got my fly to bounce off the rock and into the calm spot and he hit it before it had gone 2 feet downstream.

Nothing real big, I know, but all in all was an awesome day. Between a few others that I hooked but lost and these I would have ended up with a double limit if I had kept them. Ive never even managed 1 limit before, let alone a double!!! THey were all fun to catch, the little ones were probably the feistiest of the bunch!!! Great weather too.

That is a great spot. I have been fishing there for years. It all ways produces good fish for me. The quail love that area too, so on weekends when both seasons are open, you can get a great mixed bag meal.

Yeah I noticed that. Gonna be looking for a bit of mixed bag myself, come opening weekend of Quail.
