Blaupunkt GPS with video navigation

When you think of GPS, you never think Blaupunkt. But this is an intriguing step foward in technology.

It uses a video camera on the back of the unit to display a live view of the road with navigational elements added in.

From an overland travel perspective, it's will be interesting to see this technology grow. Could you imaging being able to share tracks actually show the recipient to go to the left of an obstacle or right when they get there? To take that little fork to the left or not? Even better, capture a pic directly from your GPS showing the route or an impassable obstacle?

Nice find Pete! I still think that it might be best to opt for a in-vehicle PC I'm sure with the software and similar set up it would still be cheaper than this unit. None the less, way cool to see that implementation and application to overland travels.

I agree - a car PC is by far the best way to go as it affords the ultimate in flexibility.

The removable, small size solution is better for those of us with mates that are a little less "enthusiastic" - you've got a special case there amigo.

Wife to Pete: "You want to put a laptop mount where? And you expect me to still enjoy riding in the truck? You know I'm going to spill slurpee on it and use it as a table for cutting cheese and salami right? I don't want that thing there." :shakin:

I can see it now... Clueless people driving their Beemers by watching the GPS unit instead of looking out the windshield.

The impression I got is that it was like a mini Head's Up Display application. It'll really be cool when the navigation detail is displayed on the windshield. Fighter pilots can't have all the fun. Ah, give it another 10 years.
