Bloose Build! 1982 Ford F250

[BLOOSE]

Hi Everyone, I do not post much but I have decided to create a build thread to document the build up of the Blue Moose F250.

This particular truck was given to my wife and I in 2017 by my in laws who have owned it since the mid 80s.

Over the years I have done quite a bit of work to the truck and have it running pretty good. However, it's time for a serious build!!!

I am going to start in the back, for the rear suspension I am planning to run modern F150 rear springs, I am mocking it up with a set of 2012 Raptor leafs (with extra leaf):

To adapt the new leafs to the stock D60 axle I am using a 1/2" plate that I added U bolt locks in, and a 5/8" stainless Dowl. The OEM spring pearches are severely worn and I have not decided how I will fix them but for now I am just trying to get everything bolted up and cycled.

For the spring mounts I am using a Full size bronco desert/prerunner style mount and shackel. Luckily the rear mount was in just about the right position, the forward mount did require relocating, to do this I had a backing plate cut that bolts to the frame alinement locations and then used the plate as jig to locate the other holes. The forward three holes will be for a cross bar that I am still working on.

Note that most of the nuts and hardware is non locking, this is for mockup purposes.

Okay the truck is configured to run 2010-2014 raptor or f150 springs depending on payloads and I will most likely use a HD f150 pack.

My favorite body style. I had an 83 f250 with a 6 cyl. and an 84 f250 with a 6.9
Right now I have an 04 f250 v10, 6 speed. would love to have my running gear with a 80-86 body

I love alot of trucks but I definitely find the bullnose OBS the best looking of the old fords. Maybe its because the cab was originally designed with this front haha.

Anyway I did get some work completed, I made a few templates to send to get cut out for my cross tube that will support the antiwarp bar as well as a cross tube that will mount the shocks.

Also a few pictures of the bloose camper, we picked it up just a about a month ago I loaded it up on the work horse to go to the beach next weekend but it will live on the Bloose once it's ready.

Hi thanks for the interest, the rear brakes are from Lugnut 4x4 I installed them a while back trying to get the truck on the road (rather than replacing all the drum components). With the discs I installed a later model F350 hydroboost and Saginaw PS pump the system works great. I actually love TTB, and will stick with it. This truck has a 44HD version with bolt in axle retainers and a factory LSD. (That said I will be modifying the front TTB suspension for additional performance and ride quality).

Also just got shipping information from Send-Cut-Send (awesome laser cutting if anyone needs something) so I should be getting some work done soon!

I've got my half ton set up with it, using a D50 third in the D44 housing, cromo axle shafts, extended radius arms, and long shocks (F-250 shock towers). Cycles ~13-14", limited by the relatively short coils, I've been very happy with it. Are you going to stick with leaf springs, or go coil of some kind? That bolt in axle retainer is a relatively rare bird, that's cool, same for the OEM limited slip.

I know those D44 have much longer arms so I believe those numbers, that's awesome travel! With the HD version I have the D50 arms and will be limited to maybe 8-10" I hate to say my plans out loud because, I don't have the parts and honestly still have tons of work just to get the rear done however, yes I am going to go to coils. The front of the truck got smashed out in the desert and the leaf mount actually bent causing the shackel to Jam almost immediately during compression.

Sweet had a package waiting for me when I got home today! Some items from laser. I am setting myself up to mig weld everything that's why you will see small tabs on all the holes to open-space the parts to an idea welding position... or let me clarify ideal for me. I am using a Ruffstuff antiwarp bar for this axle, but created a different axle mount.

I am waiting on some DOM so I can't fully mock up everything but for progress pictures you can get an idea of the shock mount and where the cross tube will go for the front of the traction bar. I did carefully measure to make sure my bed will fit over the tubes butttttt its gonna be realllly close!

I was also able to drill and ream the left forward leaf mount to accept the ford raptor 18mm bolt but the mount is made out of a really strong (hard) material and I need a new reamer to do the right side.
