Blue ridge parkway...

Can we get going now?
So, I am planning a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway late this May (2013). 469 miles starting in Asheville, NC. Anyone have any advice for me while in the planning stages?

Specifically looking at:
Daily distances indifferent sections.
Recommended camping.
Areas to avoid.
Good restocking places.

Thanks!

We did it self contained back about 30 years ago in the fall, after school started and before fall foliage season. Staying at the park service campsites worked out fine. That made the short day around 45 miles and the long day in the high 70's. We ran north to south so the legs were more prepared for the mountains in the southern section. We had planned and packed food for the whole trip and found we ate much more. We've driven portions several times since then. Current maps should provide enough info on places to stock up on supplies along the route.

Best memories - coasting down hill for hours, pancake breakfast at Maybry Mill. Worst memory - 5 hour climb in the fog on a bike with only a dual sprocket up front. Be prepared for cold up high and the tunnels are really dark if you don't have a light.

Have a good trip.

How much food should I bring?

I am planning on the equivalent of 6 meals per day.
