To answer your question Jim, I have read on other forums that you quite possibly could drive the truck out of the USA, but would have difficulty getting it back into the USA. I have also heard of people threatened with legal action from the US government and possible charges because they violated the end user agreement. Some have also been threatened with the confiscation of their vehicle. So I geuss you take your chances, or buy a vehicle at a much greater cost with an export certificate.:Wow1:

I thought about it one time while riding around in mexico and it seems to me that the way to go about turning one of these into a multi-continent truck would be to take the body off. Just throw that away, and then put on some sort of medium duty cab from something. Use the vin of the cab, then title it as a rv, and drive it wherever you want.

Wouldn't be military looking anymore, wouldn't be titled the same, and probably go unnoticed as all the old medium duty's look gigantic like that. Plus they are everywhere in mexico, so would blend right in.

Sounds like a plan Zephyr. I hope you buy one and do a build. That would be cool to watch....:ylsmoke:

Ha, its unlikely I will build one, its just an idea that I've had. If I ever felt the need for a really big rv/home truck, I would use an extended cab on a bobbed duece, some sort of medium duty front clip, flat bed, full size slip-in, cut a pass through, and go slow. Paint it one color, run it into a couple things so its ugly(no medium duty truck in mexico looks like it hasn't been run into something!) and not come back for awhile. Maybe if I decide to be a snowbird in 50 years.

But in reality, I can't see needing or wanting anything quite that big. The thought "I wish I had something slower, harder to park, with worse mileage than my truck because I NEED more space" has never gone through my mind. I think a 1 ton truck with an alaskan would be quite enough for anything I would want to do. Hell a tent on a motorcycle works really well.

edit:I came across this reading about bikes.

so, question about this end user agreement, cause doing a build up on a bobbed deuce was in the plans for me once i've served a few years in the military, what would the situation be like if you wanted to drive it up to alaska, you would run through canada obviously...just a trip ive always wanted to do. bob a deuce, buy a military flat bed, forgot the number on the one i want m815 or something or other..and tow up a jeep or something :) oh the dreams
